THE MIRE is a contained psychological thriller, directed by Adam Nelson and written by Chris Watt. Shot in Portsmouth, on a micro-budget, the film takes place over the course of one night, as the leader of a fictional community,  known as The Canon, finds himself trapped in the web of his own deceit, when he is caught by two of his most devout followers, on the eve of a mass suicide that he has no intention of going through with, planning to abscond with the money he has been slowly stealing from his congregation. Realising that he is trapped in a catch 22, unable to tell the truth, and unable to continue with the lie, the story becomes a battle of wits between all three characters, which reveals that each of them has been hiding secrets from the other.
